Support at Home is a new aged care program being introduced by the Australian Government to simplify and improve in-home care services for older people. It is expected to replace existing programs like the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP) from mid-2025. If you’re already receiving aged care support, your services will continue without interruption. The goal of Support at Home is to provide a more flexible and individualised system that better reflects your changing needs. We’ll keep you informed as more details are released and support you through any transition.
Both programs help older Australians stay independent at home, but they differ in structure: CHSP (Commonwealth Home Support Programme): Aimed at people with low-level support needs. Services are generally one-off or short-term and funded at a lower level. You pay a small contribution per service. Home Care Package (HCP): Designed for those with more complex or ongoing needs. Funding is allocated as a package (Level 1–4), and you can choose how to spend it across different services like cleaning, transport, personal care, or allied health. At JANGO, we work with both funding types and can help you understand which one suits your current situation.
You can apply for government-funded in-home aged care through My Aged Care, the national aged care gateway.
